Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated the need to keep the Lagos-Badagry expressway clear, describing it as a critical international highway linking Lagos, Badagry and other destinations. 

The governor made the call on Saturday during an inspection tour of the corridor, where he interacted with traders and residents on environmental orderliness. 

Mr Sanwo-Olu stated that activities capable of obstructing traffic and movement must not be allowed along the highway because of its strategic importance. 

“This is an international highway. This road goes all the way to Badagry and connects to other places, so it has to be clear. 

“We cannot allow people to obstruct the road. The road must remain clean and accessible to everybody coming from different places,” the governor said. 

He urged traders and other users of the area to conduct their businesses peacefully while complying with government regulations and environmental standards. 

According to him, the state government remains committed to creating an atmosphere where residents and businesses can thrive without unnecessary disruptions. 

Mr Sanwo-Olu told the traders and residents, “Go and do your business peacefully. You do yourself peacefully and everywhere will be peaceful. 

“Things are tough everywhere, and that is why we have to ensure that people can continue to do their businesses in an orderly environment.” 

The governor also highlighted the need for affordable trading spaces, assuring residents that the government would continue supporting small businesses through appropriate policies. 

He called for greater cooperation from traders and residents in maintaining cleanliness and order along the highway and adjoining areas. 

Mr Sanwo-Olu assured the people that his administration would sustain engagement with stakeholders to address concerns and promote peaceful coexistence. 

He explained that the inspection was aimed at assessing conditions in the area and ensuring that commercial activities did not inconvenience other road users.

The governor said the exercise would also help the government monitor compliance with regulations designed to improve safety, accessibility and environmental management. 

Mr Sanwo-Olu thanked residents for their cooperation during the visit and commended the peaceful atmosphere observed throughout the inspection. 

He urged them to sustain the spirit of cooperation and support efforts aimed at keeping the highway safe, clean and accessible to all users.
