Hunter Biden, the son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, says his father’s prostate cancer has spread to other parts of his body, leaving him in pain despite his regular public appearances.

The 56-year-old revealed this in an interview with the BBC on Friday, stating that his father’s deteriorating condition is painful and sad to watch. 

“The cancer has spread, metastasised into his bones and further. It’s very painful, and it’s very debilitating in many respects,” Mr Biden said. 

“It’s really sad to watch,” he added. “The only thing that I’d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good.”

The former president announced his diagnosis in May 2025, less than four months after leaving the White House. He noted at the time that the cancer was hormone-sensitive and was expecting it to respond well to treatment.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management,” the politician said in a statement at the time. 

Meanwhile, Mr Biden stated his father remains “out there” speaking on important issues affecting Americans, adding, “He so believes in this country.”
