Woman arraigned for allegedly stealing 16 bags of rice
A 51-year-old woman, Adeola Akindele, who allegedly stole 16 bags of rice valued at N650,000, was on Monday arraigned before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant appeared before the court on a two-count charge bordering on breach of peace and stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Simon Uche, alleged that the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2024 at about 10:00 a.m. on Mowo-Ikoga Road, Badagry.
He alleged that the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace and stole 16 bags of rice valued at N650,000.
According to him, the bags of rice belonged to Mustapha Sulaimon.
He said the offences contravened Sections 168(d) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Lateef Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with one responsible surety in like sum.
He ordered the surety to provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government and adjourned the case until September 2 for mention.
