Woman drags ex-husband to Shari’a court over child custody

A mother, Fatima Jibril, on Monday, dragged her ex-husband, Muhammad Mahmud, before a Shari’a Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, seeking child custody and a N50,000 monthly maintenance fee.
The complainant’s lawyer, Abubakar Jibril, told the court that his client and her husband got divorced in January and took their two-year-old child to his mother ever since.
“We want the child to continue to be in the mother’s custody while the father takes full responsibility for school fees, health and general well-being,” the lawyer pleaded.
In his defence, the defendant, speaking through his counsel, Mahmud Ibrahim, said he could only pay a N25,000 maintenance fee.
The judge, Mu’awiyya Shehu, asked if she would accept that, and she agreed.
The judge adjourned the case to September 22 for ruling.
