The management of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), on Monday, conducted a technical bidding for 2026 capital projects, aimed at enhancing efficiency and professionalism for effective service delivery.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Ahmed Ahidjo, who presided over the exercise in Maiduguri, said the facility had earlier advertised the bidding in two national dailies to enable interested members of the public to apply for the projects.

Mr Ahidjo, who was represented by the director of administration, Idriss Omar, however, expressed appreciation to all for attending the opening of the technical bidding for the year 2026.

The CMD stated that the tenders for the 2026 projects included the construction of works, supplies and provision of goods and services.

Also speaking, the deputy director of procurement, Suleiman Buba, thanked the management team, the bidders and the observers from various Federal Government agencies for attending the event.

Mr Buba said that UMTH had at least eight lots in the bidding for consideration at the end of the exercise.

He stated that lot one was for the construction, procurement and installation of equipment and furniture for the ophthalmology complex, while lot two was for the construction, procurement and installation of equipment for the E and G complex.

Mr Buba said that lot three was for the procurement and installation of furniture for the sickle cell and nutrition centre, while lot four was for the procurement and installation of the main CT scan machine 138/160/.

“Then we have lot five: procurement and installation of equipment and furniture for the new microbiology complex. Lot six: construction, procurement, and installation of equipment and furniture for family planning clinic and extension unit,” he added.

He said that lots seven and eight were lots from the 2025 capital projects which had not been awarded, adding that that was why they were forwarded to the 2026 capital projects for initial bidding and consideration.

He said that the lots were for the procurement and installation of a High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) machine for the treatment of fibroids and other joints, as well as the procurement of medical equipment and furniture.

“So, these are the lots we have. We are going to consider their technical bids. After the technical bids, the lots will be handed over to the technical and evaluation committee of UMTH for consideration.

“We are going to verify whether the companies have met our identification requirements in our adverts. Then we will invite the bidding companies to come for the financial bids opening,” he said. 

Speaking on behalf of the observers, Abba Aji Muhammad of Gaji and Partners thanked the management for giving them the opportunity to witness the technical bidding and commended the procurement department for displaying transparency at the bidding.
