18 people killed in vehicle travelling from Lagos to Kano
At least 18 people were killed when a vehicle travelling from Lagos to Kano fell into a ditch at Wuya village along Bida-Mokwa road in Gbako council area of Niger.
The crash occurred on Wednesday at about 12:35 p.m.
The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Niger, Aishatu Sa’adu, confirmed the crash to Peoples Gazette on Thursday.
“The crash occurred in Wuya Village. A truck fell into a ditch. 41 people were involved. Twenty people were injured, two were not injured, and 18 were dead,” she said.
Ms Sa’adu attributed the crash to the driver’s fatigue.
According to her, the victims were taken to Federal Medical Centre in Bida for medical treatment while the deceased bodies were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
“They were all taken to Federal Medical Centre, Bida. The vehicle was travelling from Lagos to Kano,” she added.
