Flood: Christian Aid, UNICEF supply emergency response materials to Kaduna LG
Christian Aid with support from UNICEF and Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) supplied emergency response materials to Kaduna North Local Government Area to strengthen flood preparedness.
The Programme Manager, Christian Aid, Abisola Alabi, presented the materials during a visit to the local government secretariat on Thursday.
Mrs Alabi said that the items would be distributed to three flood disaster focal points at Kigo road, Malali and Rafin Guza.
She said the intervention was meant to improve the capacity of communities to respond to flooding and other emergencies.
Mrs Alabi said the materials comprised seven pairs of rain boots, six life jackets, six blankets, one first aid box, one 100-metre rope and a megaphone.
She stated, “Each of the three focal points will receive two life jackets, two rain boots and two blankets. The first aid box, rope and megaphone will support the Local Government Emergency Management Committee in coordinating emergency response.”
The Director, Social Sector of the council, Aisha Zarma, received the materials on behalf the vice chairman, Ibrahim Ahmed.
Ms Zarma appreciated Christian Aid and KADSEMA for supporting vulnerable communities.
She assured that the council would ensure the materials reached the designated focal points and will be used judiciously.
Ms Zarma said that the council was ready to work with humanitarian organisations, emergency management agencies and other stakeholders to improve disaster preparedness.
She said that the collaboration would help protect lives, reduce disaster impacts and strengthen emergency response in Kaduna North.
