Police arraign man for alleged N1.8 million motorcycle theft

The police on Monday arraigned a 35-year-old man, Nasiru Shehu, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N1.8 million.
The defendant, who has no fixed address, is facing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and one other suspect, still at large, committed the offence on August 7 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant and the other suspect stole a TVS motorcycle with registration number MUE 583 QD, valued at N1.8 million.
Mr Oriyomi said the motorcycle belonged to Faith Onwochei.
He said the offence contravened Section 301 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Luke Mbam, urged the court to grant him bail, assuring that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until September 7 for hearing.
