The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Monday, announced the sacking of Super Falcons coach, Justine Madugu, and his technical crew.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the NFF posted on X.

The sack of the 62-year-old followed the ten-time African champions’ loss to South Africa on August 13 in the continental playoff, which ended their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history since its inception in 1991.

This was also preceded by their loss to eventual winners Cameroon in the quarter-final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which meant that, for the first time in their history, they would not make it to the semi-final of the competition.

Mr Madugu led the team to their 10th WAFCON title in July 2025, defeating hosts Morocco in Rabat.

The development comes four days after the NFF, on Friday, inaugurated a six-member fact-finding committee, led by its former general secretary, Fanny Amun, as chairman, and the chairman of the Sokoto State Football Association, Nasiru Sa’idu, as secretary, to investigate the recent failures of the team.

Other members of the committee are former Flying Eagles coach, Ladan Bosso; former Super Falcons captain, Desire Oparanozie; former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju; and a former referee, Alex Mana.
