APM wins Bauchi local govt elections

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission has declared the Allied Peoples Movement winner of Monday’s local government elections.
BASIEC’s chairperson, Jummai Abubakar, declared the results on Monday.
She said APM candidates won 20 seats for chairmanship and 319 councillorship positions.
Ms Abubakar said the declaration followed the conclusion of voting, counting and collation of results.
The chairperson said the APM also won 319 out of the 323 councillorship seats, while other political parties clinched the remaining four seats.
She said the Social Democratic Party (SDP) won Dandango Ward in Bauchi LGA, while the National Rescue Movement (NRM) won Darazo South Ward in Darazo LGA.
She added that the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won Wandi Ward in Dass LGA; and the Young Progressive Party (YPP) secured Zirami Ward in Giade LGA.
Ms Abubakar said the commission declared the candidates duly elected, having satisfied the requirements of the law and secured the highest valid votes in the election.
Some opposition parties boycotted the election, alleging that the exercise contravened the 2026 Bauchi State Electoral Act.
The parties included the African Democratic Congress (ADC), African Action Congress (AAC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
