Webometrics ranking places UNILAG second in Nigeria, 23rd in Africa
The University of Lagos has emerged second in Nigeria, 23rd in Africa, and 1,291st globally, among higher institutions with the best digital presence, research visibility, open scholarly repositories, and overall academic impact.
In a statement on their website on Tuesday, UNILAG said the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council, published the ratings in its July 2026 Second Edition biannual Webometrics Ranking.
It read, “The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has once again proven its excellence, securing the 2nd spot in Nigeria and an impressive 23rd in Africa in the July 2026 Second Edition Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.
“Globally, UNILAG stands tall at 1,291st place – a testament to its growing digital footprint and academic influence.
“The Webometrics Ranking, published biannually by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council, evaluates universities based on their digital presence, research visibility, open scholarly repositories, and overall academic impact.”
The institution congratulated itself as the university of first choice and the nation’s pride for the outstanding achievement.
