Man in court over alleged N2 million tricycle theft

A 45-year-old man, Gbenga Oyebamiji, was arraigned on Friday before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court on charges of allegedly stealing a tricycle worth N2 million.
Mr Oyebamiji, whose residential address was not provided, faces two counts of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Simon Njue, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 14 at about 8:40 p.m. at an NNPC filling station in Badek, Ayobo, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant, with others still at large, conspired to steal a tricycle with registration No. 5VM430VS, valued at N2 million.
Mr Njue said the tricycle belonged to Franklin Chukwuemeka.
He said passersby apprehended the defendant and handed him over to the police.
Mr Njue said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Section 411 stipulates two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy, while Section 287 stipulates three years’ imprisonment for stealing.
The magistrate, F.R. Ogunkoyode, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N700,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until September 15 for mention.
