Save the Children International (SCI) has inaugurated a renovated block of classrooms and water projects at Ngurore and Wuro-Chekke primary schools in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony on Friday, Garba Pella, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, described the projects as a capital investment in children’s future.

Mr Pella, who was represented by Patience Demas, director of human capital development in the ministry, thanked SCI for the projects.

“The Adamawa government deeply appreciates SCI and its partners for their continued commitment to strengthening education in the BAY States of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.

“These facilities will contribute significantly to creating a safer, more conducive and inclusive learning environment for children, including internally displaced persons, returnees and children with disabilities,” he said.

Mr Pella encouraged the benefiting communities to take ownership of the facilities, ensure their proper maintenance and use them sustainably for the benefit of present and future generations.

Abdulrasheed Muhammad, SCI’s team lead, said the projects were provided under the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) Multi-Year Resilience Programme II.

Mr Muhammad, who was represented by Hela Dauda, SCI’s education officer, said the projects were among many others in different locations across the state.

Zainab Hassan and Lawan Dikko, the head teachers of affected schools, appreciated SCI and the state government for the projects.

The head teachers said the gesture created a conducive atmosphere for teachers and pupils and ensured the facilities were used to the fullest.

In her remarks, Aisha Umar, the speaker of Children’s Parliament in Adamawa, urged the government and education stakeholders to continue to prioritise the revitalisation of the education system.

“We must invest in quality learning environments, support our teachers, and provide adequate learning materials as well as ensure that children, regardless of their background or circumstances, have a fair opportunity to receive quality education,” she said.
