The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Friday said it uncovered another fake agency operating in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Musa Adamu Aliyu, identified the man behind the fake agency, “National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office,” as George Buchi Nwabueze.

He noted that President Bola Tinubu had ordered his immediate arrest and suspension of three permanent secretaries linked to the development.

The Peoples Gazette’s check for Mr Nwabueze’s digital footprint showed he runs social media accounts and a website: Made in Nigeria.

On his social media pages, Mr Nwabueze described himself as “Nigerian entrepreneur, leader, and philanthropist born on August 27, 1974, in Urualla, Imo State,” and the coordinator of the “National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office.”

A post on his Facebook page dated September 10, 2025, read, “The National Coordinator for the Made in Nigeria Project Office is Hon. Nwabueze Buchi George. He leads this Nigerian government initiative, which is a project of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) in Abuja.”

It added, “The project’s main goal is to boost the Nigerian economy by promoting and supporting locally made products and services, especially from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).”

Flyers, photos and videos of him attending meetings with Nigerians and other foreign dignitaries are also on the Facebook page.

A particular flyer advertising “Made In Nigeria Economic Forum and Nigeria National Day Awards 10TH – 12TH OCT. 2025” featured photos of Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Another flyer advertised “Nigeria Brazil Economic Forum and Made in Nigeria Exhibition Week & Expo Bere, Brazil, held on 15TH – 16TH NOV. 2025.”

Checks show that Mr Nwabueze also operates a LinkedIn account which he last updated four days ago.

On the website of Mr Nwabueze’s madeinigeria.org, a photo of President Bola Tinubu and a coat of arms with “Made in Nigeria” text is on its first page, while he maintains a page with his official portrait as executive national coordinator of the project.

The Gazette also observed that there are no photos of the chairman or other team members on the website, though there are hyperlinked texts for “The Chairman” and “Our Team.”

The Gazette cannot immediately confirmed whether Mr Nwabueze has been arrested. However, Adeniyi Adeyemi, who ran a similar fake agency, Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, had been nabbed for prosecution.

The anti-graft agency said the fake agency, “National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office,” was discovered during the ongoing investigations into the Mr Adeyemi-led Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
