FFS saves N400 million property in Kano market fire
The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has swiftly responded to a fire outbreak, saving property worth about N400 million at Wapa Market, Fagge, near GTBank in Kano State.
The Kano State controller of the FFS, Sadiq Usman-Mahmud, disclosed this in a statement signed by the service’s public relations officer, Al-Hassan Kantin, on Saturday in Kano.
He said the service received a distress call at about 1:58 p.m. on Friday from a concerned member of the public, prompting a swift response from the Federal Secretariat Fire Station.
“Upon receiving the report, we immediately deployed a team of firefighters from the Federal Secretariat station to the scene.
“The incident involved a two-storey commercial building covering an estimated area of about 50 by 50 metres.
“On arrival, the fire had affected the ground floor. We successfully quenched the affected section to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building and surrounding properties,” he said.
The controller said the fire outbreak was suspected to have been triggered by a defective solar installation.
Mr Usman-Mahmud added that property worth N100 million was lost, confirming that no lives were lost.
He said: “No casualty was recorded, and firefighters conducted a thorough inspection to ensure that there is no further risk of fire.”
The controller urged the public to ensure that solar installations were carried out by qualified personnel and inspected regularly to avoid unforeseen circumstances.
He also advised the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report any signs of fire or electrical faults.
