The AIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, Simeon Akpanudom, has urged the police medical team to prioritise personnel health and well-being, particularly detectives.

Mr Akpanudom made the call when the force’s medical director, Nkechi Eze, and her team paid a working visit to the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday.

In a statement by the spokesperson of the FCID Annex, Mayegun Aminat, on Tuesday, Mr Akpanudom stressed the importance of regular medical checks for detectives, noting that the physical and mental well-being of police personnel is essential for efficiency, professionalism and effective service delivery.

He also called for improved access to qualified medical professionals and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for detectives and other personnel at the Annex.

The FCID boss said routine medical assessments would facilitate early detection of health concerns, promote preventive healthcare, and ensure that officers remain physically and mentally fit to discharge their responsibilities.

During the visit, Ms Eze and her team inspected the medical facilities at the FCID Annex and assessed areas requiring improvement.

Responding, Ms Eze thanked Mr Akpanudom for the warm reception and said the team had earlier inspected medical facilities across various police formations in Lagos.

She assured that the requests and needs identified during the inspection would receive the necessary attention.

Ms Eze further pledged continued collaboration with the FCID Annex to strengthen medical services and improve access to quality healthcare for police personnel.

Mr Akpanudom commended the Force Medical Services team for its commitment to improving police personnel welfare.
