The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has urged communities and residents to provide timely and credible information to the police to enhance crime prevention and security in the state.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga,  quoted Mr Ama in a statement as saying this on Tuesday in Awka, during a meeting with leaders of Arewa communities across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

Mr Ikenga stated that the meeting was part of the command’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive policing and strengthen collaboration with communities.

“Effective policing cannot be achieved by the police alone but requires the collective efforts and support of community leaders, residents and other critical stakeholders.

“There is a need for timely and credible information sharing, community support and mutual trust in preventing and tackling crime,” Mr Ikenga quoted Mr Ama as saying.

The commissioner of police stressed the need for communities to maintain peaceful relations and work closely with the police in addressing emerging security concerns before they escalated.

He urged the Arewa leaders to remain committed partners in the command’s security initiatives and sensitise their members to the need to support lawful security operations.

Mr Ama also encouraged them to promptly provide useful information to the police to enhance the protection of lives and property.

He assured the delegation that the command would maintain an open-door policy and strengthen its partnership with communities, irrespective of ethnic, religious or social backgrounds.

According to him, inclusive engagement, mutual trust, timely intelligence and collective responsibility are key components of his policing strategy.

Mr Ama reaffirmed the command’s commitment to working with law-abiding residents and stakeholders to build a safer, more peaceful and secure Anambra.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Arewa Community in Anambra, Gidado Sarki, pledged the continued support and cooperation of the community with the police and other security agencies.

Mr Sarki, who is also the National Deputy Director-General of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), said the collaboration would help maintain peace and protect lives and property in the state.

He added that sustained engagement among communities and security agencies would promote harmonious coexistence.

The meeting provided an opportunity for interaction on security concerns, community policing and practical measures to enhance the safety of lives and property in the state.
