Eid el-Maulud: Lagos deputy governor urges Nigerians to embrace peace, unity
The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and compassion as Muslims commemorate this year’s Eid el-Maulud.
Mr Hamzat made the call in a statement on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Tunde Alao, to mark Prophet Muhammad’s birth anniversary.
He described the occasion as an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on the exemplary life, teachings, and enduring legacy of the Prophet.
According to him, the life of Prophet Muhammad symbolises faith, compassion, honesty, justice, and peaceful coexistence.
Mr Hamzat urged Muslim faithful to ensure that the celebration went beyond festivities by imbibing virtues such as love for humanity, humility, truthfulness, forgiveness and kindness to the less privileged.
He also urged them to show respect for others, irrespective of religious, ethnic or political differences.
He added “The essence of Eid el-Maulud goes beyond celebrations. It is an opportunity for us to reflect deeply on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and recommit ourselves to the values he exemplified.
“His life teaches us that faith must be reflected in our character, conduct and treatment of one another.”
The deputy governor said the teachings of Prophet Muhammad provided enduring guidance for building a society founded on mutual respect, integrity, compassion and responsibility.
He called on Nigerians to promote unity and understanding, stressing that national development depended on the collective commitment of citizens to peaceful coexistence.
Mr Hamzat also encouraged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for peace, stability and prosperity of Nigeria.
He urged them to extend acts of kindness and generosity to the needy during the celebration.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to promoting religious harmony and building an inclusive society where all citizens could thrive.
He prayed that the celebration would bring renewed faith, peace, and blessings to Muslims and their families.
Mr Hamzat also prayed for Almighty Allah’s guidance and protection for Nigeria and its people.
