Troops arrest two suspected terrorists in Zamfara

Troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition during a night gun battle in the Kaura Namoda area of Zamfara State.
Yusuf Mohammed, the acting spokesman for the operation, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
“The operation, conducted in the early hours of 25 August 2026, further demonstrates the Brigade’s sustained efforts to deny criminals freedom of action within its area of responsibility,” he said.
He stated that at about 1:50 a.m., troops operating from the area encountered and apprehended two suspected terrorists during a patrol.
“The suspects were identified as Jabiru Hassan, 25 years old, and Umaru Bello, 23 years old, both reportedly from Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State,” Mr Mohammed added.
He said the items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated Dane gun, two rifle magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 18 cartridges for the dane gun, one motorcycle, two Baofeng radio sets and one mobile phone.
He said troops also recovered two MP3 players, one camouflage vest, two jungle hats, one handbag, and N44, 500.00 in cash.
“Preliminary examination of the suspects’ mobile phone revealed photographs and video materials considered potentially incriminating and of intelligence value,” the spokesman noted.
He added that the contents are currently being further verified and exploited by the appropriate authorities to establish their relevance and possible links to terrorist activities in the area.
