UN chief demands justice as armed gangs killed 47 civilians in Haitian communities
At least 47 persons were killed by armed gangs on the outskirts of Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.
In a post on X on Wednesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince, saying the affected communities needed reinforced security efforts to counter armed gangs.
“I condemn the latest gang attack on Kenscoff, a commune on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince, in Haiti, that reportedly killed at least 47 people, including 22 who were reportedly executed in a church compound where they had found shelter,” he said.
He stated that the relentless gang attacks on communities and the loss of civilian lives underscored the alarming security conditions in Haiti, and reinforced the urgent need to intensify Haitian & international security efforts to counter gangs.
“I reiterate my call for Haitian authorities to ensure that those responsible for such attacks are held accountable,” he added.
