Kano govt agencies join forces to tackle counterfeiting

The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) says it will strengthen collaboration with the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to protect consumers and promote their welfare.
The Executive Secretary of the Council, Ibrahim Garba-Muhammad, stated this when officials of the commission paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Kano.
This is contained in a statement to journalists by the council’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Jamilu Mustapha, on Tuesday in Kano.
Mr Garba-Muhammad stated, “The collaboration between the two agencies will contribute to the development of Kano State, particularly in areas affecting the welfare and wellbeing of residents.
“We are committed to curbing the production and distribution of adulterated and substandard products in markets and companies across the state.
“This collaboration will enhance the council’s efforts to address complaints from members of the public.”
He added that the council would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that consumers were protected from harmful and substandard products.
Earlier, the Chairman of the commission, Sa’idu Yahaya, said the aim of the visit was to establish a strong working relationship with the council.
Mr Yahaya commended the council for its efforts in tackling substandard products in the state.
He said that the effort would protect the health and safety of consumers and prevent threats to public health and ensure consumer safety.
Mr Yahaya later inspected facilities where adulterated and substandard products confiscated by the council during its enforcement operations were kept.
