Four persons trapped during Russia’s missiles that struck residential buildings in Poltana, Sumy and Kherson on Wednesday were rescued in Ukraine by State Emergency Service units.

In a X post on Thursday by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said efforts were underway to deal with the aftermath of Russia’s attack on his country..

He stated that it was a combined strike – drones and ballistic missiles. 

“The Russians struck critical infrastructure in the Poltava, Sumy, and Kherson regions. In the Kharkiv region, they struck residential buildings. In Kramatorsk, a guided aerial bomb hit a high-rise building. Four people were rescued by the State Emergency Service units,” Mr Zelenskyy said.

He stated that three people were injured in Zaporizhzhia, and two in Kryvyi Rih, noting that an apartment building was struck in Odesa.

“In Chubynske, Kyiv region, all the necessary emergency services are involved in putting out fires at enterprises following the drone strikes,” he said.

Mr Zelenskyy added that Russia continued to invest in missiles and in expanding its war, adding that it meant more countermeasures were needed. 

According to him, this week, the country’s European allies made important decisions to strengthen Ukrainian air defence. 

“It is important that these are also supplemented by additional ballistic missile defense packages, first and foremost through PURL. Everything that strengthens the protection of our skies effectively saves the lives of Ukrainians every day,” he said.
