President Donald Trump has threatened to deploy the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to punish NBC White House correspondent Kristen Welker after she reported his political endorsements as “mixed results”.

According to reports, Ms Welker made the comments during a pre-Meet the Press live shot on NBC’s local station, where she was commenting on the results of candidates backed by Mr Trump in recent primary polls across the United States ahead of upcoming midterm elections. 

Responding to the remarks in a lengthy post on Truth Social on Sunday, Mr Trump labelled Ms Welker an “unpopular hostess” while boasting that his endorsement record stood at 100 per cent in Senate races and 98 per cent in House of Representatives races.

“Kristen Welker, the unpopular “Hostess” of the once great Meet the Press, now considered Meet the Fake Press, just stated that Donald Trump has “mixed results” on his Endorsements of Candidates, when the recent wins of Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei, stand at 100% for the U.S. Senate, and 98% for the U.S. House, recently and over the long term,” he said. 

Speaking further, Mr Trump said Ms Welker’s analysis was inaccurate, and vowed to report the journalist to the FCC for possible rebuke or punishment.

“How can anyone be allowed to say this, working for freely given Public Airwaves? Results are attached. Because of this purposeful inaccuracy, she will be reported to the FCC for rebuke or punishment.

“Unfortunately, she is not the only one. The Radical Left News is going out of their way to harass, demean, and libel anything ‘TRUMP’,” Mr Trump stated. 

This is not the first time Mr Trump has threatened the media profession over what he perceived as unfair reporting. He has filed lawsuits against ABC News, CBS News, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the BBC for their coverage of him in recent months.
