Nepal death toll reaches 903, 4,247 missing
At least 903 people have been confirmed dead, and over 4,247 people are missing after the deadly flash flood that ravaged communities on the Nepal-Tibet border last Wednesday.
Nepalese authorities confirmed the death toll and soaring number of missing persons on Monday, warning the death toll and missing persons could increase even as rescue efforts continue.
The number of missing people rose sharply from 2,502 on Sunday to over 4,000 on Monday as rescuers search for more than 900 missing hydropower workers.
The missing hydropower workers are believed to be trapped inside the Trishuli-3A hydropower site in Rasuwa district and the sites in Chilime.
A breakdown of missing people since the disastrous floods includes 3,655 Nepali citizens and 592 foreigners. Also, bodies of 102 Nepali soldiers, police and customs officers have been recovered from the floods.
The devastating flash flood from the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa ravaged riverine areas in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and other communities, causing loss of lives, displacement, and cases of missing persons.
