Four people killed in Kwara building collapse

Four among residents trapped in a collapsed building at Masalasi Gogoro, Ilorin West council area of Kwara, on Tuesday, have died.
The fire service in Kwara confirmed the development to Peoples Gazette on Tuesday.
“The report now is that four out of the victims were confirmed dead. Four others were currently at the hospital receiving care,” the firefighters stated.
The building collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday.
Eight people, including a family of five, were among the victims trapped in the rubble.
The council chairman, Abdulrahman Ladan, expressed sadness over the incident and acknowledged the swift response of rescue operatives.
“It is a sad development. Something like this has never happened in the local government before. I appreciate the governor for his support. As I speak to you, NEMA, SEMA and different ministries are here,” Mr Ladan stated.
He urged residents to be vigilant about their buildings and get proper approvals before starting construction to avoid preventable disasters.
