FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reaffirmed his commitment to run for a fourth term, amid growing disapproval over his leadership within UEFA and other football governing bodies. 

A spokesperson from the world football governing body confirmed Mr Infantino’s stance on his re-election, saying, “The FIFA president announced in April that he will stand for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Mr Infantino will be standing for re-election.” 

The president’s commitments come despite several calls for his resignation and boycott of FIFA competitions by other football governing bodies, including UEFA, CONCACAF and AFC, over his leadership.

Last week, UEFA commenced legal actions in three U.S. states against Mr Infantino and FIFA for their involvement in abandoning the $20 billion FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal to sell minority stakes in the World Cup and FIFA’s other competitions.

Mr Infantino, after Argentina’s U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026 match against Poland, failed to answer questions about the weeks of criticism, his regret over the abandoned minority proposal for the World Cup and other FIFA competitions, and his re-election plans.

“There will be a lot to say, but there will be a right place and a right time to say this. It’s not today, it’s not here, but here and today, we are enjoying football,” he said.

The next FIFA presidential election will take place at its 77th congress in Rabat, Morocco, in March 2027.

However, no other candidate has formally announced a challenge to Mr Infantino for the presidential seat.
