The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is doomed to lose the 2027 presidential election because it chose Rabiu Kwankwaso as its vice-presidential candidate.

The NDC secretary general, Ogini Olaposi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Mr Olaposi slammed the selection as a gross mistake and a profound betrayal of God and humanity.

He asserted that political parties must exercise extreme caution when choosing flag bearers and running mates, pointing to Mr Kwankwaso’s history as the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate.

The NNPP national  secretary accused Mr Kwankwaso of attempting to hijack the party that brought him into the political limelight and stated, “Once a betrayer, always a betrayer and posterity will prove us right.”

Mr Olaposi dismissed assertions that Boniface Aniebonam, the NNPP founder, ‘dashed’ the platform to Mr Kwankwaso as preposterous, noting that the original certificate of registration was never handed over to the board of trustees.

The NNPP secretary argued that while the 2023 election gave Mr Kwankwaso a rare opportunity and a free ticket, he ultimately stabbed the party in the back, drove members away in droves, and failed to appreciate the platform’s benevolence even as he finished a distant fourth behind Peter Obi.

He warned that the NDC will face a similar fate, urging voters to look closely at the antecedents of running mates who could potentially assume the presidency.

He dismissed large rally crowds as rented and transient, saying the NDC would soon realise that optics do not translate into actual votes.

Furthermore, Mr Olaposi criticised Mr Kwankwaso for previously treating Mr Obi as a junior political partner, only to now “follow him behind, carrying his bag.”

The NNPP urged NDC founder Seriaka Dickson to activate co-founders to protect the party structure from Mr Kwankwaso, while inviting all deceived NNPP members to return home ahead of the 2027 general elections.
