The Nigeria Union of Journalists (FCT council) has described the death of Peter Onwubuariri, assistant director (media) at the Presidential Villa, as a huge loss.

The union announced this in a statement signed by its chairman, Grace Ike, on Wednesday.

“His death is a profound loss to the media fraternity and Nigeria. He will be remembered for his rich experience, valuable contributions to journalism and exemplary service to the nation. Until his death, Onwubuariri was a respected News Agency of Nigeria correspondent deployed to the Presidential Villa. He served diligently in the media teams of three successive administrations. He was widely known for his professional depth, sound judgment and exceptional understanding of the relationship between government institutions and the media.

“Before joining the Presidential Villa press corps, the late journalist had risen through the ranks in NAN, where he served as assistant editor-in-chief and made notable contributions to the agency’s editorial development and news operations.

“The NUJ FCT Council recalls his unwavering dedication, competence and sense of responsibility, which earned him the confidence of colleagues and senior officials throughout his years of service,” the statement said.

It stated that Mr Onwubuariri was a committed and highly respected journalist whose calm disposition, professionalism and devotion to duty endeared him to colleagues and associates.
