Ogun man in court over alleged housebreaking
A 29-year-old man, Olabiyi Taiwo was on Wednesday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Ogun State, over alleged house-breaking and damage to property.
Taiwo, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge bordering on burglary and malicious property damage.
He pleaded guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Opeyemi Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 6, at about 4:38 am at House 1 Palm Spring Estate Oko Titun Laderin, Abeokuta.
Mr Lawal alleged that Taiwo broke into the house of the complainant, Ajayi Oluwaseun, with intent to commit a felony.
He further said Taiwo entered through the window after damaging the burglary-proof window worth N80,000.
Mr Lawal said that the noise from the forced entry alerted the complainant who raised the alarm that attracted his neighbours.
“The defendant was arrested, and he made a confessional statement admitting he was responsible for the crime,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 413(2) and 451 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
The Magistrate, O.T Odubanjo, adjourned the case until September 23 for hearing.
