Abuja woman arraigned for allegedly pouring hot water on neighbour during argument
The Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) police command has arrested a suspect for allegedly pouring boiling water on a neighbour’s back after an argument in the Lugbe area.
A statement on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the incident was reported at Lugbe police division on Thursday at about 3: 30 p.m.
She stated that a resident Gift Amos in Lugbe had an argument with her neighbour, Beauty Monday, during which the suspect poured a pot of boiling water on her back, causing serious burns and grievous hurt.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred during an argument over the use of a shared compound space.
“It was established that the victim had moved the suspect’s pot of boiling water from the stove to the portion of the compound allocated to her,” Ms Adeh said.
She noted that the action angered the suspect, who subsequently removed the pot from the stove and poured the boiling water on the victim’s back.
According to her, the victim is currently receiving medical attention for the injuries sustained.
She added that the suspect had since been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings, and the matter adjourned until September 16, 2026.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, called on members of the public to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint in resolving disagreements.
