Ferran Torres fired a hat-trick as two-time consecutive holders PSG thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6-1 and Spanish champions Barcelona whipped Feyenoord 5-1 in their league phase opener on Wednesday.

The reigning champions took the lead from a solo effort by Ousmane Dembele in the 17th minute. The Frenchman made it 2-0 as the visitors were punished after a poor defensive breakaway.

Torres picked up his first goal of the night in his Champions League debut for the club, netting from the six-yard area to increase the lead for his side, with an assist from Dembele.

After the break, Torres increased the lead. He sealed his hat-trick, thanks to another partnership with Dembele, making it five nil.

Suleiman Camara scored Slovan’s first of the evening in the 58th minute.

The home side responded again right before stoppage time with a goal from Fabian Ruiz to give PSG six.

The match also saw Slovan’s manager Yaya Toure make history as the first African manager to coach a Champions League match.

At the Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona beat Dutch side Feyenoord 5-1. Barcelona opened the scoring with an early goal from Raphinha, as Lamine Yamal registered his first assist of the campaign.

Barcelona doubled the lead with a goal from new winger Karim Adeyemi, set up by Joao Cancelo in the 22nd minute.

Raphinha scored a brace to make it 3-0 for the home side. Yamal made it four-nil with a well-delivered free-kick in the 77th minute.

Feyenoord scored a consolation goal in the 82nd minute as Sam Steijn pulled one back for the Rotterdammers.

Barcelona sealed the victory as Gabriel Jesus scored his first goal for the club to make it 5-1.

Meanwhile, Andoni Iroala secured his first home win at Anfield as Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid 2-1. Arsenal edged Napoli 1-0, and Stuttgart beat Viking 3-1. Galatasaray suffered a 3-1 loss to Sporting in their league phase opener.
