Makoda council area in Kano has given ₦50,000 start-up capital each to 100 women to support their small businesses and improve their livelihoods.

The information officer of the council, Zainab Idris, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

The statement said the chairman of the council, Auwal Jibga, distributed the funds at the council secretariat in Koguna as part of efforts to empower women and promote self-reliance.

Mr Jibga urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously to expand their businesses and create additional sources of income for themselves and their families.

He appreciated members of the Community Re-orientation Council, Lafiya Jari leaders and ward party leaders for their support and cooperation toward the success of the empowerment programmes.

The chairman also urged the beneficiaries to continue supporting the APC from the grassroots to the state level, saying public cooperation was important to sustaining programmes aimed at supporting women and other members of the community.

Mr Jibga commended Governor Abba Yusuf for his concern for the welfare of citizens through efforts to improve infrastructure and living conditions across Kano State.

He described the governor as a leader committed to fulfilling his promises through programmes targeting urban and rural communities.

The statement said each of the 100 beneficiaries received ₦50,000, bringing the total value of the start-up capital to ₦5 million.
