NIS, Chinese immigration authorities to cooperate on migration management, intelligence sharing
The Nigeria Immigration Service and the National Immigration Administration of China have agreed to deepen cooperation in migration management, border security and intelligence sharing.
According to a statement by NIS spokesman Akinsola Akinlabi on Sunday, the discussions occurred during a bilateral meeting between comptroller-general Kemi Nandap and NIA officials on the sidelines of the Sub-Forum on Migration Management Cooperation in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province.
The international forum, held from September 8 to 11, brought together more than 2,000 participants from 139 countries and organisations to deliberate on strengthening international cooperation in migration management and responding to emerging transnational challenges.
The bilateral meeting, the SPRO said, focused on issues of mutual interest and opportunities to deepen collaboration between the two institutions.
The proposed areas of cooperation, he said, include technical exchanges, information sharing and capacity-building initiatives, reflecting the growing need for coordinated responses to migration-related security threats.
”The NIS presentation centred on Nigeria’s role in combating document fraud and falsification of records, highlighting the efforts of the service in strengthening document verification and border security.
”The comptroller-general reaffirmed the commitment of the service to strengthening international partnerships, intelligence sharing, and technical cooperation in promoting secure borders and effective migration management,” he said.
