The Nasarawa State Government has called on journalists in the state to support its policies and programmes as it begins a weekly media briefing and statewide tour of completed projects.

The state commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Nawani Aboki,  made the call during an interaction with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, on Tuesday in Lafia.

Mr Aboki also called for issue-based campaigns and urged politicians to shun violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said that the project tour was part of efforts to showcase the modest achievements of the Abdullahi Sule-led administration.

According to him, Mr Sule’s administration is in its climax, hence the need to showcase its achievements for public records.

“If we say the governor has completed projects, let’s go and see what has been done and report it to the public.

“Let’s see what has been done so that we can give him the proper accolade that he deserves,” Mr Aboki said.

The commissioner added that the weekly briefings would enable journalists within and outside the state to better appreciate the government’s efforts in providing dividends of democracy to the people.

“Governor Sule needs your support. He believes that you are critical stakeholders to the success of his administration,” he said.

In his response, Chairman of the Chapel, Abubakar Abdullahi, commended the governor for being accessible to the media in the last seven years.

He noted that harassment of journalists in the state stopped under the Sule administration.

He, however, appealed for improved welfare for journalists in the state, particularly in the area of government patronage.

The chairman assured the commissioner that the members of the chapel would support the government’s efforts towards placing the state on the path of steady growth and development.
