NASIEC fixes October 15 for councillorship bye-election in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has fixed October 15 for a councillorship bye-election in Katakpa Ward, Toto Local Government Area.
The commission announced this in a statement signed by Dahiru Hudu-Musa, NASIEC secretary, on behalf of its chairman, Ayuba Wandai, on Tuesday in Lafia.
It said the by-election became necessary after the death of the serving councillor representing the ward, creating a vacancy.
According to the statement, the election will be conducted in all designated polling units within Katakpa Ward in accordance with relevant provisions of the law and guidelines issued by the commission.
NASIEC called on eligible voters, political parties, candidates, traditional and community leaders, security agencies, observers and other stakeholders to cooperate with the commission to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, credible and transparent election.
It urged eligible voters in the ward to come out peacefully and exercise their civic responsibility by voting for candidates of their choice.
The commission also urged all political parties and candidates participating in the election to conduct themselves responsibly and in accordance with the law throughout the electoral process.
It said it would share further information on the timetable, polling arrangements, and other by-election details through its official channels.
The commission reiterated its commitment to conducting the election in accordance with the law and ensuring a credible electoral process.
