The police command in Katsina has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued two abducted victims in Dutsin-Ma and Kankia local councils.

The arrested suspects are Sani Dikko, 22, Kabir Sani, 22 and Salisu Bello, 22.

In a statement on Wednesday, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command’s spokesperson, said the incident occurred on Saturday after the command acted on credible intelligence along Marabar Shema village.

He said during the preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to committing the offence.

“Specifically, Sani Dikko voluntarily confessed to conspiring with the other suspects to kidnap his grandfather, one Alhaji Lawal, about three weeks ago. The victim spent 16 days in captivity before securing his release following the payment of a ₦3,000,000 ransom,” Mr Aliyu said.

He added that all the suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to unravel their wider criminal network.

Mr Aliyu said on Monday at about 12:45 a.m., a distress call was received at Kankia Division reporting that about eight bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked Sha’iskawa Fulani Village, Kankia LGA, and abducted two women.

The victims are Assubi Rabe, 45 and Rabi Isyaku, 27.

He said police were mobilised to the scene, adding that the team engaged the bandits in a gun duel.
