Two arrested over alleged murder of inspector in Imo commissioner’s residence

The Imo State police command has arrested two suspects allegedly linked to the murder of a police inspector at the residence of state commissioner for trade, commerce and investment, Rex Anunobi.
A statement on Wednesday by the command’s spokesman, Okoye Henry, said the police inspector was allegedly murdered on Monday at the residence.
The suspects, Olivia Patrick, 31, and ThankGod Mourice, 25, were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
The state Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, directed a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
“In compliance with the directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) alongside the DPO, New Owerri Division, visited the scene, where necessary examinations were conducted and relevant exhibits recovered and secured.
“The remains of the deceased inspector were subsequently deposited at the mortuary,” Mr Henry said.
He stated that the matter had since been transferred to the SCID for further investigation, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects currently at large.
Mr Henry said the CP also directed the investigating team to ensure the prosecution of anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.
“The incident is a painful reminder of the risks and sacrifices police officers face in the discharge of their duties,” he said.
Mr Bosso commiserated with the family of the deceased inspector and assured them that the command would ensure that justice was served.
