Paris court awards Kim Kardashian €1 over 2016 robbery

U.S. media personality Kim Kardashian has been awarded €1 by a Paris Court for compensation, following a jewellery robbery incident at a hotel in Paris in 2016, in which jewels worth over $6 million were stolen.
Ms Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, requested the symbolic amount in the civil case, saying that it recognised the harm she suffered after the incident rather than compensation for the jewels’ worth.
The robbery occurred on October 3, 2016, at the Hôtel de Pourtalès.
She was held at gunpoint, tied and gagged as some of the robbers disguised themselves as police, broke into her residence and stole her jewellery, which included a $4 million engagement ring from her ex-husband Kanye West.
Ms Kardashian described the incident as “the most terrifying experience of my life.”
Eight people, including the robber’s alleged ringleader Aomar Aït Khedache of the “Grandpa Robbers,” were convicted in May 2025 for their roles in the heist.
The group of assailants was named the “Grandpa Robbers” because they were elderly men in their 60s and 70s.
The French court awarded a former receptionist at the hotel who said he faced trauma from the robbery €109,516 after he had sought €550,000 in damages, while the hotel received €50,000.
In a joint statement, Ms Kardashian and her stylist appreciated French authorities for their accountability in the case following their traumatic ordeal saying, “The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.
“We are thankful to the court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal.”
