Police arrest security guard for shooting resident

The police command in Oyo state says it arrested a 49-year-old security guard, Oladapo Felix, for shooting a resident at Zion Estate, Yakoya area, Elewuro, Akobo, Ibadan.
A statement on Wednesday by Ayanlade Olayinka, the command’s spokesman, said four guns and a machete were recovered from his duty post.
Mr Olayinka said the shooting occurred on Tuesday at about 4:00 a.m., when the victim, Bolaji Oladipupo, reportedly came out of his residence to pump water and heard a siren around his house.
The victim went outside to identify the source of the noise but was confronted by the security guard.
“The victim stated that he identified himself as a resident of the house but was nevertheless shot by the security guard. Following the report, police operatives from Akobo Division promptly visited the scene and subsequently arrested the suspect, Oladapo Felix, aged 49, of Zion Estate, Yakoya area of Elewuro, Akobo, Ibadan,” the police statement.
During the preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to having shot at the victim.
“A search of his duty post consequently led to the recovery of two serviceable locally made single-barrel guns, two unserviceable locally made single-barrel guns and one machete, which have been secured as exhibits,” it added.
