Diesel prices in Türkiye rose by 4.68 Turkish liras (about $0.10) per litre on Thursday, surpassing 100 liras for the first time after the second major increase in two days.

The latest hike followed a 6.5 lira per litre increase on Tuesday, according to fuel retailer Petrol Ofisi.

Pump prices reached around 100.3 liras per litre in Istanbul and more than 101 liras in Ankara and Izmir following the increases.

In some provinces, diesel prices exceeded 102 liras, according to nationwide pump price data.

The sharp increases came amid elevated global oil prices, with geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and concerns over possible disruptions to regional energy supplies adding pressure to energy markets.

Fuel stations across Türkiye began switching to three-digit price displays ahead of Thursday’s increase as diesel prices continued to climb.

Diesel prices have risen by more than 85 per cent over the past year, from around 54 liras per litre in September 2025 to more than 100 liras currently.

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said earlier on Wednesday that the government had temporarily foregone additional tax revenue through a sliding-scale fuel tax to limit the impact of rising global oil prices on domestic pump prices.

“While diesel exceeds 150 liras per litre in many European countries, it is hovering around 100 liras here.

“We have truly foregone significant tax revenue to achieve this,” Mr Simsek said in a televised interview.

Mr Simsek said containing diesel prices was important for easing cost pressures on the agricultural and transportation sectors, which have a significant impact on inflation.
