The Kano State police command has engaged the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in a strategic security meeting to avert clashes ahead of the harvest season.

This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s public relations officer, Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, on Thursday in Kano.

The statement said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, hosted the delegation, led by the state MACBAN chairman, Captain Abdullahi Adamu-Bakoji (rtd), at the command headquarters in Bompai on Wednesday.

Mr Adamu-Bakori noted that proactive engagement remained vital to curbing seasonal farmer-herder tensions typically associated with transhumance and harvest periods.

The police commissioner briefed the delegation on comprehensive security arrangements deployed across the state to protect lives and property throughout the final quarter of the year.

He emphasised that the command, aligned with the operational vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, prioritises conflict prevention through intelligence gathering and early-warning systems.

To achieve this, Mr Adamu-Bakori directed the Department of Operations and the State Intelligence Department to execute coordinated visibility patrols and rapid-response interventions along grazing routes and at flashpoints.

The Miyetti Allah chairman commended the police initiative, outlining challenges such as crop destruction, cattle rustling and encroachment on grazing routes.

He assured the command of the association’s commitment to internal sensitisation, discipline and sustained collaboration with other security agencies.

The police commissioner directed intelligence units and operational departments to intensify visibility patrols, early-warning mechanisms and rapid-response interventions across agrarian zones.
