Customs hands over 3,893 parcels of seized cannabis to NDLEA

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko, has seized 3,893 parcels of cannabis sativa worth N1.93 billion at various locations in the command.
The Area Comptroller, Oladapo Afeni, disclosed this while handing over the 1,878kg of drugs to Olufemi Akande, Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command, on Friday.
He said the handover followed standard operating procedures and the legal framework for further investigation.
Mr Afeni said that the Ogun 1 Area Command would remain hostile to illicit goods and the passage of drugs that could destroy the nation’s economy.
“We will continue to fish out criminals, especially smugglers who engage in illicit goods, drugs, and run them out of business,” he said.
Responding, Mr Akande lauded the strong partnership between customs and NDLEA, noting that the achievement was made possible through the two agencies’ cooperation.
“We would not allow our country to be used as a passage or using our country as a transit route for drugs.
“Together, we can make our country great and the society free of drugs,” he said.
Mr Akande called on all stakeholders to join this campaign against drugs to flush them out of the system and block the passage of drugs.
The NDLEA boss said, “When we have drugs within the system, we are playing with the future of the country”, lamenting that the number of youths abusing drugs was on the increase.
