Amid the ongoing war with Israel, Iran has executed a man it accused of passing information about missile sites in Isfahan to Israel’s Mossad.

The judiciary’s news agency, Mizan, identified the man as Hossein Pedaran, saying he had been convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel and sentenced to death, with the sentence upheld by the Supreme Court.

The news agency explained that the man was arrested in Isfahan on charges related to the war.

In an account of the man’s confessions, it was revealed that the man first messaged the CIA offering to cooperate and received no reply before contacting Mossad and was answered days later.

Mr Pedaran was also paid in euros collected from a magnetic box behind a guardrail near a Tehran bridge.

The court said notebook on missile subjects marked “highly confidential” was also found at Mr Pedaran’s home, adding that information provided by Mr Pedaran contributed to strikes in which officers were killed or wounded.

Mr Pedaran was, however, executed without any evidence for the allegations.

The development came amid a litany of espionage executions in Iran amid the war with Israel.

Some of those executed so far include Ali Ardestani, Mehdi Farid, a former employee of the atomic energy organisation, Omid Behzad and Pouria Safva.

Also in July, two protesters, Amirhossein Safari and Abolfazl Sepahi, who allegedly participated in the January widespread protests in Iran, were publicly executed via hanging by the country’s authorities.

The Iran Human Rights, an NGO based in Norway, and Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM), headquartered in Paris said that at least 1,639 people died last year, a record high since 1989.

Meanwhile, concerns have been raised over the growing executions in Iran resting on confessions extracted in detention without adequate verification.
