Wafarniyi Theman, the governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for the 2027 general elections in Adamawa, has expressed readiness to improve security and children’s welfare if voted into office.

Mr Theman stated this during an interaction with newsmen in Yola on Saturday.

He said his manifesto, tagged ‘Adamawa Reset’, had a 17-point agenda, with evidence-based targets that would enable the people of Adamawa to hold his administration accountable within the first 100 days.

He said his administration would do everything possible to ensure the security of citizens, followed by the welfare of children through the education and health sectors, to secure the future of the state.

According to him, to address the security challenges, there would be a programme named ‘We the People’, with the involvement of key stakeholders such as traditional leaders, religious groups and Civil Society Organisations.

“That system will be contacted with a desk in the government house as the Chief security officer.

“And within our first 100 days we are going to have Adamawa State Security Trust Funds fully backed by law and we are going to ensure there is so much money in it to be able to drive the process at the local level.”

Mr Theman said the next priority areas were education and health emergencies as the foundation for development, which was a constitutional provision.

He said the Constitution made it mandatory to provide basic education to all school-age children, adding that this was important in addressing the challenges of out-of-school children who were on the streets due to poverty and other reasons.

“Our stand is that one child must not be out of school as is the case now from a report by the Universal Basic Education Commission that 6,279 locations in Adamawa are schooling under trees and in unconducive situations.

“This is almost close to Out-of-school because the environment for children has an impact on the outcome”, he said.

According to him, the rate of poverty in the state was very alarming, adding that his administration would come up with a programme for poverty alleviation and create employment opportunities for youths and women in the state.

He further listed other priority areas to include government reform, agriculture and rural development, energy, tourism, soft technology, water, elderly care, disabilities and social services, among others.
