Taraba lawmaker urges communities to prevent recurrence of violent clashes
Haruna Manu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) senator representing Taraba Central senatorial district, urged residents of the Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba to embrace peaceful coexistence.
The senator’s call followed last Tuesday’s clash between members of two ethnic groups in the council area.
In a statement in Abuja on Monday, Mr Manu sympathised with the families of those who lost their lives in the violence and urged residents to put the incident behind them and allow peace to reign.
He condemned the attack, which occurred in Mbamga communities along the Nigeria-Cameroon border, reportedly leaving nine residents dead.
The lawmaker appealed for calm and urged residents of the affected communities to avoid actions that could further escalate tensions.
“I want to appeal for understanding and plead with the families of the victims of the clash. This development is uncalled for, especially at this trying period for all and sundry,” Mr Manu said.
