The University of Ibadan students’ union has dissociated from the students’ legislative summit scheduled to hold at the university’s International Conference Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In a notice on Tuesday, the union’s president, Temidayo Adeboye, said it had neither authorised any representation at the event nor endorsed the programme.

He also said the institution management had not endorsed the programme and would not have any representative at the event.

“Following the concerns and uncertainties surrounding the programme, the Union wishes to clearly state that it dissociates itself from the event and has not authorised any representation of the Students’ Union at the programme,” he said.

He stated that the union is unable to assure students of the intentions, structure and implications of the programme.

“We therefore advise students to exercise caution and refrain from attending or participating in the programme, as the programme is not a representation of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union,” Mr Adeboye noted.

He added that where circumstances surrounding a programme raised legitimate concerns, and the union could not assure students that their best interests were being considered, it was necessary to issue such a warning.

The union urged students to take the notice seriously and exercise appropriate caution.
