Deputy governors’ forum felicitates Akomas at 66
The Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria has felicitated its national chairman, Chris Akomas, on his 66th birthday, citing his contributions to public service and governance.
The forum’s director-general, Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, said on Wednesday in Abuja that Mr Akomas brought his public administration experience to the forum’s leadership.
Mr Ibe-Kalu said the forum’s national conferences under Mr Akomas’ leadership gave former deputy governors and other stakeholders opportunities to deliberate on governance and national development.
He said Mr Akomas consistently advocated policies to improve the welfare of Nigerians, including access to food and other necessities.
Mr Ibe-Kalu urged Nigerians at home and abroad to join him in celebrating Mr Akomas, whom he said had made significant contributions to public service.
“Dr Chris is a bold and courageous leader who pursues every cause he believes in with dedication and love for humanity,” he said.
Mr Akomas, a former deputy governor of Abia, also served as the federal commissioner representing the state on the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
He chaired the commission’s Indices and Disbursement Committee and previously served as Abia commissioner for lands and survey.
He also held administrative positions at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
Mr Akomas holds a PhD in Applied Psychology from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, and a master’s degree in Personnel Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
He is currently the national chairman of the FFDGN and national secretary of the South-East Stakeholders Forum.
The forum is a non-partisan body comprising former deputy governors from across the country’s 36 states.
It serves as a platform for members to share governance experiences, promote national development and offer policy recommendations on issues affecting Nigeria’s democratic governance and socio-economic development.
