The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced the discovery of another identified woman’s body in Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, bringing the number of female remains found in the area over the past two months to 10.

SAPS Gauteng spokesperson Brenda Muridili confirmed the development to media on Saturday morning, stating that the latest victim was discovered half naked in the early hours of today. 

The ENCA news reported that the body was found inside the Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa near an Informal Settlement.

“A woman’s body has been discovered in Tembisa South, in the Vusimusi section, this morning, 26 September 2026. At this stage, we can only confirm the discovery of the body,” Ms Muridili said. 

She noted that law enforcement officers and other officials had arrived at the area to preserve the scene and conduct investigations. 

“Crime scene management and all the necessary role players are currently on the scene. Further information will be provided as soon as preliminary investigations have been conducted,” Ms Muridili.

The Peoples Gazette had last week reported that the bodies of nine women were previously found across several areas of Ekurhuleni, including Kempton Park, in two months, causing widespread safety concern in South Africa.

Reports noted that several of the remains were found partially clothed and with injuries as speculation continued to grow on social media about the possibility of a loose serial killer in the area. 

Earlier this week, Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia, announced that three individuals were arrested and brought in for questioning in connection to the mysterious killings.

“I can indicate that there are three suspects who have been called in for questioning and I have confidence from the report that I have received that the investigation would be completed sustainably,” Mr Cachalia said.
