Two chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Abubakar Attajiri and Aminu Gidan-Kanawa, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Attajiri, the ADC state deputy youth leader, and Mr Gidan-Kanawa were received, along with their supporters, by the APC state chairman, Alhaji Haruna Adiya, on Saturday at the party’s headquarters in Sokoto.

Mr Adiya, accompanied by other APC leaders, welcomed the defectors and assured them of equal treatment with other party members.

He said the APC remained united in the state, adding that its members had confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Senator Aliyu Wamakko and other party leaders.

“By the special grace of God, APC candidates will emerge victorious at all levels during the forthcoming general elections,” Mr Adiya said.

Speaking shortly after their reception, the two defectors attributed their decision to join the APC to what they described as the achievements of Gov. Aliyu and the exemplary leadership of Mr Wamakko.

They expressed confidence in the APC state leadership, saying it was steering the party toward greater achievements.

“We are, therefore, pledging to work tirelessly to ensure the success of all APC candidates at all levels during the forthcoming polls.

“We will also leave no stone unturned in supporting the people-oriented policies and programmes of Gov. Aliyu, President Tinubu and other APC candidates,” they said.
