New York Times executive Jonathan McKinsey shot dead, wife’s parents arrested for murder
The father-in-law and mother-in-law of Jonathan McKinsey, a New York Times executive, have been arrested for murder. Police alleged that Mr McKinsey’s wife’s elderly parents, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, fatally shot him over the weekend in California.
The couple, both 77, now face multiple charges of first-degree murder and will appear in court on Wednesday, according to Dublin Police Services.
Police said an officer was driving near the sports grounds at 3:08 p.m. Saturday, and saw Mr McKinsey lying in the parking lot at 6700 Dublin Blvd.
The New York Times confirmed that Mr McKinsey, 40, the newspaper’s director of engineering for games player experience, was shot dead over the weekend.
The shooting of Mr McKinsey, a transgender person, happened amid a divorce case with his wife, Ms Jang. Reports said Mr McKinsey had filed for a restraining order against her, accusing her of striking him with a frying pan in 2013.
Also, Ms Jang had reported to Dublin police that her husband assaulted their six-year-old son, hitting him in the face. She also accused Mr McKinsey of a domestic violence incident in 2018.
